Feel great in your skin.

Sugaring changed my life! Although I had years of experience waxing and a great job at Aveda South Coast Plaza, once I discovered sugaring I never looked back. It’s by far the smoothest hair removal process I’ve ever experienced and I’m excited to turn you onto it!

Read more about sugaring below, and please reach out with any questions or concerns. My goal as a Sugarist is to make you feel comfortable during the process and beautiful afterwards. See you at the pool!

Sugaring is an ancient method of hair removal first used in Egypt / Persia. Almery uses a modern sugar made by Tamara’s Sugar. There are only 3 ingredients – water, lemon, and sugar. It’s consistency and appearance is very close to that of a VERY thick honey or candy in the liquid stage.

Sugaring is very different to standard waxing. We use the Egypian handheld method which means NO wax strips / fabric. It’s just you and the sugar. If you have been sugared using strips, then you really haven’t been properly sugared. Most of the negative sugaring experiences I’ve heard about were carried out by inexperienced technicians using wax strips, hard / old sugar, or the rolling method.

When done right, sugaring is far less painful than waxing and causes less redness. Sugar is essentially a water molecule (unlike wax which is resins and oils) and it does not adhere to living tissue. This means it is only removing the hair and not the skin. Also, sugar is heated to just above body temperature – no burns and no extra sensitivity from heat.  We should note that if you have sensitive skin, sugaring can result still in some skin irritation. This is a natural bodily reaction to hair being pulled from the folicle. Sugar itself is otherwise hypoallergenic.

Another reason to love sugaring is that it is very good at getting hair from the folicle. This results in much finer hair re-growth and can eventually lead to near permanence with subsequent treatments (depending on hair type).
